Wink Email Marketing And Backend Sales - 05-30-2008, 06:35 AM

You notice that you just made a sale from your ecommerce site. Wanting to make more, you increase your marketing efforts. You hope you acquire new customers. But if you let your existing customers slip away, you are thwarting another potential source of revenue. Well, thanks to email marketing you can easily acquire backend sales without having to spend too much money on additional advertising.

How does email marketing work in a time where everyone is so scared of spam? The answer is opt-in emails. This is a form of email marketing in which people grant merchants permission to send them email advertisements. The easiest way to obtain this permission is to offer customers something for free. Many Internet marketers use ebooks, but you may want to consider offering something that relates more to your ecommerce site. For example, you could give customers one of your cheapest products. This would be considered more valuable than an ebook. Plus it helps in further promoting the brand associated with your ecommerce site.

Either way, once you have obtained your customer's permission, you are ready to begin email marketing. Now, by the fact that the customer already has bought from you, you do have the option of sending a direct advertisement for a new product being featured on your ecommerce site. However, bear in mind that most people do not like being advertised to. It is much better to build up interest to an ad by providing background information relating to the product being marketed.

To do this you will need to send an e-course or a newsletter. If you are not good at writing, consider buying private label content or hiring a ghostwriter. You will need to get enough material to advertise to the prospect at least 7 days. Why 7 days? According to marketing experts, people usually do not buy until they've been exposed to a product 7 times. You can try advertising a few more times than that, but you don't want to overwhelm your customer. Yet, don't advertise less, because you're not giving them enough time to contemplate whether or not they want to buy.

In terms of sending the emails, if you are managing a small number, you can do it through the email account associated with your ecommerce site. However, if you have a large amount of emails to send, you're going to want to use an autoresponder. Not only are autoresponders easier, but they lessen the chance you get in trouble with your ISP or your email provider for spamming.

Autoresponders can be free or paid. Paid autoresponders offer more email marketing power. Plus, you don't have to display another company's advertisements. This is not the case with free autoresponders, though if you're really pressed for cash, they can do the job just as well.

In conclusion, if you follow the steps outlined in this article, you will begin to acquire a wealth of backend sales. Indeed, don't let existing customers get away if you don't have to. Through email marketing you can get an infinite amount of repeat business.
